“(The) last time I was this moved by a play was when James Still’s
Kathleen and the Big, Big Winter was performed as a concert reading at
Brooklyn Playworks, a theatre company for emerging playwrights. This was
in 1994. That evening I believed we were witnessing a moment of the
history of American Theatre. James Still was an emerging playwright who
is now considered one of the major playwrights of the 21st
century. I hadn’t felt that way about a playwright since that time.
David Roby is a playwright who will become part of the history of American
Theatre. His skill for narrative, character, and words is far beyond what
most playwrights can do.”
